If there is one stage of a woman�s life that is hard to cope up with that would be her menopausal years. As defined, menopause is a stage wherein a woman�s monthly period has stopped. Veering away from the common conception that menopause is a �disease,� people in the medical world says that menopause is nothing but a normal and expected change in any woman�s body.

2. Occurrence of hot flashes or hot flushes.

3. Profuse night sweating usually followed by a slight chill.

4. Sleep disturbances and trouble getting enough sleep due to physical discomfort.

5. Vaginal atrophy. This is characterized by thinning, drying, shrinking and thinning of the vagina in most women.

6. Psychological instability characterized by mood disturbances, irritability, fatigue, decreased sexual desire, and memory loss. Violent mood swings, crabbiness, and crying spells, which are usually caused by, pent up frustration due to lack of sleep are also common.

7. Inability to concentrate or focus on tasks properly. This is characterized by great deal of trouble focusing on things because the woman feels mixed-up and confused.

8. Hair issues. Women who are experiencing menopause or those who are about to experience it are having trouble dealing with hair issue due to hair loss or thinning on their head. They also experience hair growth on their face, which is quite unlikely for a woman.

9. Increased estrogen deficiency that leads to vasomotor instability characterized by dyspareunia, itching, dryness, bleeding, urinary frequency, urinary urgency, and urinary incontinence.

10. Skeletal problems and muscle pains such osteoporosis, joint pains, and back pains.

Definition of a Phytoestrogen

What exactly are phytoestrogens, and how can we use them to our benefit in the development of the breasts, as a hormonal balancer for menopausal symptoms, and as a healthy, preventative addition to our diet? If you�re a woman experiencing symptoms of perimenopause or menopause, this means you�re dealing with hot flashes, weight gain, irregular periods, mood swings and/or other symptoms typical in middle aged women.

Quite often these symptoms are unsettling because you�re entering a new phase in your life and you�re not quite sure what to expect. Your mood swings may be as a result of declines in your hormone levels, but it�s also important to understand that it�s not unusual to experience everyday life events that can also bring on stress, depression or moodiness.

Perhaps your grown children are giving you reason to be concerned, or maybe you�re spending a lot of time helping an aging parent. So, what should you do when you�re getting ready for work and your husband is complaining because he�s faced with quite a dilemma � his coffee is cold. Or maybe he can�t find his blue shirt. Oh no! His wallet�s not where he put it. Unfortunately, it�s in our nature to nurture and take care of our husbands, so we stop what we�re doing and warm his coffee, find his shirt or his lost wallet. But, it�s so very important for you to also take care of yourself during this time. If that means neglecting your husband�s needs once in awhile, so be it. If your mate is in a lousy mood, don�t allow him to bring you down with him. Remember, you needn�t count on his happiness in order for you to be happy. Walk away. If you allow yourself to get into a confrontation or argument you�ll only be hurting yourself, sending your blood pressure sky-high and feeling emotionally and physically drained. If you�re not there to absorb negative feelings, he�ll just need to get over it, right?

Your body is going through some tremendous changes and needs to be well taken care of. If you continue nurturing everybody else and leave no time for yourself, there�s a very good chance that your hormones, combined with the many stressors you�re faced with on a daily basis will result in depression. Not only can depression leave you feeling lethargic, sad and hopeless, but it may also lead to physical conditions as well, such as heart disease and a loss of bone density.

Since the majority of us loves our mates and is still attracted to the boy in them, it�s not likely that we�ll be eliminating this particular �pain-in-our-you-know-what� anytime soon. But, because you�re a strong, mature, capable and beautiful woman, it�s crucial to remain that way by nurturing your body; eat healthy, exercise regularly and take time for yourself. In a few years you�ll be past this transitional period and if you do as is recommended you�ll feel energized and able to enjoy life to its fullest.

Early Symptoms of Ovarain Cancer

Experts believe ovarian cancer symptoms are rarely exhibited early at the most treatable of stages, when the survival rate is as high as 95 percent. A recent study has concluded that the majority of women with early stage ovarian cancer, 89 percent of the woman feel that they have experienced abdominal or gastrointestinal symptoms prior to their doctors diagnosis.

The causes of ovarian cancer are unclear, but genetic and endocrine factors raise the risk. The most significant link is a positive family history, which is present in 10% of women with the disease. Three hereditary syndromes in which ovarian cancer occurs more commonly affect certain families with a history of early breast and ovarian malignancies and hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer.

These ovarian cancer warning signs are often non-specific, the most common sign is abdominal pain but only 50 percent of woman with ovarian cancer present this.

Combination of the following symptoms and signs may suggest ovarian cancer and should prompt pelvic examination and urgent pelvic ultrasound:

* Pain

* Swollen abdomen

* Palpable mass

* Change in bowel or bladder function

* Back pain

* Loss of appetite and weight loss

* Post-menopausal bleeding

Five Questions to ask yourself:

Do you have a family history of breast or ovarian cancer?

Only 10 percent of ovarian cancers are caused by an inherited genetic mutation, but first degree relatives with breast or ovarian cancer will increase an individuals risk of the diasease.

Are you still having periods?

Ultrasound scans and Ca125 blood tests must be interpreted with the knowledge of a woman's menopausal status. Bleeding after the menopause will have a malignant cause in about 10 percent of cases. Exclude endometrial, cervical, vaginal or ovarian malignancy.

Are you urinating more frequently?

An enlarging ovary may press on the bladder. This may happen when the disease is confined to the ovary -stage one. When signs such as abdominal swelling occur, it generally represents stage three ovarian cancer

Have you had a change in bowel habit?

This may be due to an ovarian mass.

Are you suffering from vomiting, nausea or weight loss?

Once ovarian cancer has spread to the abdomen, an omental cake often forms which presses on the stomach.

The risk of ovarian cancer can create a sense of doom and family members may feel like they're sitting on a time bomb. Encourage them to express their fears and help ease their anxieties by clarifying misconceptions. Teach them to tune into their bodies and investigate any signs and symptoms, however minor. They can also live healthier. Encourage them to follow a low-fat diet and to avoid exposure to talc, asbestos, and other potential carcinogens. There's no conclusive evidence that these precoutions can prevent ovarian cancer. But they can't hurt either.

There are a few steps that you can take to reduce the risk of ovarian cancer. Oral contraceptives taken in combination for a period longer than five years could reduce your risk. Hysterectomy surgery or a tubal ligation may also be protective. And breast feeding and pregnancy are known to provide some protection. Women who tend to use powder should mainly use cornstarch based products.

What is endometriosis and what are the endometriosis stages? These are frequent questions since nearly 7 million women ages 20's to 40's in the USA alone are affected with this painful and life-altering condition. The pain, cramping and other symptoms that can accompany the endometriosis stages can range from mild, to moderate, to so severe that the woman can hardly function day to day.

What is endometriosis? Endometriosis is defined as the abnormal growth of endometrial cells that spread to areas in the body where they do not belong. Endometriosis tissue islets or implants can grow in the fallopian tubes, within uterine musculature or the outer surface of the uterus, the ovaries, pelvic organs, colon, bladder and the sides of the pelvic cavity. As the menstrual period begins, the islets become larger with blood and the problem is that there's no place for the blood to go except into tissues in the surrounding areas. Exercise is important in every phase of your life. Not only will you help your body stay limber, your heart work more efficiently, you will feel better emotionally. When you enter menopause, exercise is still just as important. For many women, taking control of their menopause through physical activity has made it easier for them to accept the changes that are happening in their bodies.

Exercising for at least thirty minutes a day may be difficult for women at any age. But as women age, their bodies may be weakened by a lack of calcium, by cancer or other disease, or may simply not have the time to get enough sleep or to eat a healthy diet and exercise.

Be creative. Find ways to exercise by participating in your favorite activities. If traditional methods of exercise are not for you, take walks or try to find ways to use the stairs.

Take control. Try to fit in thirty minutes of exercise into your day. It can be five minutes here, or five minutes there. Time yourself to see how many minutes a day you can exercise.

Begin a new diet. Improving overall health includes a healthy diet in addition to exercise.

Get friends involved. Find others who are also going through menopause and start a walking club. You and your friends can chat while staying fit. This is a good way to find time to spend with friends and also get your thirty minutes of exercise in for the day.

At the end of a long day, you will feel better if you exercise and eat a healthy diet. This is particularly important for those who suffer from hot flashes and night sweats.
